Project Description
Do You Have a Property Redevelopment Project We Can Help With?
Working as a subcontractor the general contractor, Spirtas Wrecking Company completed the structural demolition of an obsolete 6-story former hospital building and a nearby chapel/church structure for the Veterans Administration.
As part of clearing land for new Clinic and Tenant facilities at its Jefferson Barracks complex, the VA arranged for the project to include demolition of an obsolete 6-story former hospital building and a nearby chapel/church structure. Both buildings were concrete and masonry structures.
Working as a subcontractor the general contractor Walsh II/Alberici Joint Venture, SWC completed the structural demolition utilizing a large concrete pulverizer attachment operated on a CAT385™ demolition-fitted excavator. Building foundation elements were broken up for removal utilizing hydraulic hammers.
The demolition sequence included completion of selective demolition to separate the buildings to be demolished from a common corridor system serving the complex.
In addition to the demolition, SWC’s project scope included asbestos abatement/regulated material management from the buildings, underground storage tank removal, and removal of section of the underground Ricwil™ asbestos-insulated steam piping.
