Saint Louis University (SLU) retained Spirtas Wrecking to demolish the former Pevely Dairy and Missouri Belting Buildings at the Project Site.
As the first part of the redevelopment of the St. Louis University (SLU) Medical Campus, SLU retained Spirtas Wrecking to demolish the former Pevely Dairy and Missouri Belting Buildings at the Project Site.
Demolition was completed over a 7-month period of 2017. Selective removal of building components near active roadways was completed with mini excavators staged on the upper floor levels. Then, conventional demolition methods were utilized for the balance of the project. Gross demoltion including use of a high-reach demolition-fitted excavator as well as mid-reach excavators with large pulverizer attachments.
The two facilities together comprised approximately 376,000 square feet of building space; demolition included removal of all foundation elements of both structures as well
Located adjacent to busy So. Grand Boulevard and Chouteau Avenue, the project included use of carefully scheduled street closures, site traffic control, and temporary removal/management of streetlight poles. SWC’s project scope also included placement of compacted backfill in the basement cavities resulting from the demolition.
